Zagatala
The ancient town of Zagatala is located at the foothills of the Big Caucuses Mountains Chain, 420 kilometers to the North-West of Baku.  Zakatala is at 900 meters over the sea level. The town of Zagatala spreads over the Talachay-river. It is supposed to emerge in the Middle Ages.
 It was climatic conditions of Zagatala that led to town's transformation into the mountain health-resort.
 There are old monuments on the territory of the region: mosque of the 19 century in the village of Aliabad, mosque of the 19 century in the village of Mosul, two towers of the 14 century in the village of Kelebola, tower in the village of Matsekh, fortress of the 5 century in the village of Yukhary Chardakhlar, fortress of the 14 century in the village of Jar, Sheitangala of the 17 century, etc.
   Of interest is a fortress built in the later Middle Ages. Noteworthy is the fact that sailors from the legendary iron-clad 'Potemkin' who revolted against the Tsarist autocracy, languished in its prison.
