Sheki
The ancient town of Sheki is located at the foothills of the Big Caucuses Mountains Chain, 350 kilometers to the North-West of Baku. Sheki is at 800 meters over the sea level. The town of Shaki is located in a picturesque place of Azerbaijan - at the foothills of Chief Caucasian Range, on the left bank of the Kishchay-river.
Sheki is proud of the famous Palace of Sheki Khans built in mid-18 century. It would be hard to find its match by Palace's design and interior, mosaic w o r k p e r formed in the national shebeke style (colored glass decoration). No single nail was used in the building.
To the north of Shaki, near the village of Kish there remained ruins of formerly powerful fortress 'Gelersen-Gerersen' (You will come and see).
Sheki is a twin-town of Bulgarian Gabrovo. Residents of these towns have much in common as regards their sense of humor and perky laughter. There is its own Theater of Laughter with summer and winter grounds in the ancient caravan-sarai.
