Ganja
The nature of this area creates dreams. It is shining with its beauty; it has many forests, vine-yards, lakes, rivers and mountains. The nature seems drawn as if from dreams: the landscapes are marvelous and the colors are clear and bright.
The region is famous with its many mineral springs as well as unique medical oil – naftalan. This green liquid is used as a most efficient remedy for treatments of diseases including dermatological, rheumatic, and neurological ailments.
The area with its rich cultural heritage, cities with histories dating back thousands of years and sightseeing opportunities are extremely interesting for tourists: some of the most interesting tourist routes of Azerbaijan run through this area. It differs also by its developed transport network: routes of railway and transport routes, leading to the neighboring countries. The Great Silk Road runs through these lands – to Europe and Asia.
Geygel reserve, the first reserve in Azerbaijan, is located here. As the result of a destructive earthquake, which broke the high mountain Kapaz (XII), the big mountain lake Geygel was formed, surrounded from all sides with mountains of the Small Caucasus. Its waters are a big and rich aquarium. Rare lake trout, which is famous among epicures, can be found only here.
The color and the clearness of the water are impressive beyond believability: it is the most pure of the many mountain reservoirs of the Caucasus. The lake is located at 1600 m height above sea level, in the pictorial ravine of Akhsu River. Its length is nearly 2.5 km, the width - 600 m, and the depth 93 m; from January till March it is frozen.
The steep shores of Geygel are covered with thick oak-hornbeam forests, in which, in addition to the oak, hornbeam and beech, you can enjoy wild fruit trees such as apple, pear, cherry-plum, and plum. In the rainy season, the banks of the lake are an expanse for harvesting mushroom and berries. In this forest there are deer, wild boars, deer, bears, wolves, lynx and many more animal species. Those who rest on the lake can walk along its edge with pleasure, admire the transparency of Gey-gel, and the majestic panorama from Kapaz Mountain. On the Geygel reserve, there are several beautiful mountain lakes including Maralgel, and Aggel.
Visiting this area you will remember the strange charm of its steep plateau, natural plains and smooth narrow. Everything is beautiful here; pleasure of life, typical to Azerbaijan is felt every-where.
